Haldeman Community Center after its completion in 1937
Haldeman Community Center today
Our mission is to provide a place for those in the community to meet for fellowship, to provide our children a safe haven away from drugs, foster the dramatic and musical arts, by providing a place for their practice and performance and to help sustain and enhance the year-round economic, educational, recreational and social well being of residents, while preserving the historical natureof the building.
The Haldeman Hayes Crossing Community Center is located on the historic site of the Haldeman High School in Rowan County, KY. After a catastrophic fire of undetermined cause in late 2007, the building and property was purchased by a concerned group of Haldeman and Hayes Crossing community residents.
The newly created Haldeman Hayes Crossing Community Foundation has set about to restore the historic building, originally built by the WPA in 1937, which played a vital role in educating so many in the community.
The full-size gym, still in good condition, can accommodate several hundred people, and has been approved as a Red Cross emergency shelter. Community events are currently held in the gym.
Estimated to cost around $200,000 to rehabilitate the former classroom and office areas, the Haldeman / Hayes Crossing Community Foundation is seeking assistance in its efforts to restore the building to its former glory.
