Q: How long have you been involved with the Haldeman Community?
Since day one, so about 8 years.
Q: How long have you been a board member of the Haldeman Community Center?
I’ve been a board member for 8 years and the President for 7 years.
Q: How has the Haldeman Community changed throughout the years?
At one time, the Haldeman Community was the focal point of Rowan County. There was work for everyone, there was a post office, hospital, high school, grade school, and 2 brick yards. When the brick yards closed so did all the other businesses. People left the area to find work.
Q: Why do you think the Haldeman Community Center is a vital part to the community?
The community center is the only useable building left in Haldeman. It gives the community a place to socialize and to host activities. And it gives the kids a safe haven from drugs and alcohol.
Q: What kind of work do you do with the Haldeman Community Center?
I do maintenance work, I help with all functions. I also go to Paintsville once a month for supplies for the center and to give away.
Q: What would you like to see happen to the Haldeman Community in the future?
I would like to see more people get involved, more children in our After School Program, and more donations for the center’s up-keep.
Q: What has been your most memorable or rewarding experience you’ve had with the Haldeman Center since becoming a board member?
Our After School Program and to see Morehead State University continue to help us the way that they have been. I love to see the kids and MSU working together.
Q: Please write a brief summary of the Haldeman Community Center for those who are unfamiliar with it and the work they do.
We are a Safe Haven from drugs and alcohol, a good place to visit with friends and neighbors, and above all, we are for the kids.
Q: Why should people get involved with the After School Program and the Center’s other endeavors?
We need help with everything that we do, so we encourage everyone to please come and visit us. You will see and enjoy what we do.
Q: What are some specific projects, equipment, or supplies that the Haldeman Community Center require in order to keep operating?
We need help and funds. More heating units, fuel, and more books for the kids.
