Q: How long have you been involved with the Haldeman Community?
Since the spring of 2008.
Q: How long have you been a board member of the Haldeman Community Center?
Q: How has the Haldeman Community changed throughout the years?
Kathy S. May
There have been many improvements – through the community, donations, and members. There has been a greater outreach to children and community. When the Haldeman Community Center first started it was a rental facility for activities like basketball and independent family activities. Activities for all ages have since been added along with an after school program, holiday activities, Kids Day, Gourd Festival, and Gospel Singing, etc.
Q: Why do you think the Haldeman Community Center is a vital part to the community?
The HCC is a vital part to the community because of all the structured activities it has to offer. For example, it seems like each year, more and more participants in the car shows and dinners we offer.
Q: What kind of work do you do with the Haldeman Community Center?
I am active on the board and have cooked and donated food since the Center started back in 2007. I also help serve on the food line and set up and clean when needed.
Q: What would you like to see happen to the Haldeman Community in the future?
I would like to see the loan paid off and funding provided to expand the center to its original vision. It has been so blessed to have survived all of the challenges of being a non-profit organization.
Q: What has been your most memorable or rewarding experience you’ve had with the Haldeman Center since becoming a board member?
I was made a Kentucky Colonel for a 2nd time. Participating in the planning and visit with friends and family is great fellowship, too.
Q: Please write a brief summary of the Haldeman Community Center for those who are unfamiliar with it and the work they do.
I would encourage anyone to come and check us out at our next advertised activity. I assure you it will be an enjoyable time and you can take a chance at winning a homemade quilt which is raffled off approximately two times a year.
Q: Why should people get involved with the After School Program and the Center’s other endeavors?
It is very rewarding to participate with an organization that strives for their attendees to have a good time no matter which activity is going on. What can be more rewarding than to see kids have a structured activity, have a healthy snack, and learn new things?
Q: What are some specific projects, equipment, or supplies that the Haldeman Community Center require in order to keep operating?
Volunteers and funding.
